A fiery backyard landscape design in Medfield, MA
The goal of this landscape design in Medfield, Massachusetts was to create a private outdoor living space that could be enjoyed by the entire family. Specifically, the family wanted a place to hang out by the fire, a place to grill and a place to dine and entertain. The landscaping also includes a beautiful lawn area for the kids to play that is surrounded by colorful trees and shrubs— providing screening from the neighbors and enhancing privacy.
The bluestone patio, stone sitting walls, gas fire pit and outdoor kitchen grill island were all built in the masonry style the homeowners selected from a number of design options. Outdoor lighting creates an atmosphere in the evening that is warm and welcoming but without being overwhelming—like full moon light.
The lawn has a sprinkler irrigation system and the plants have a drip irrigation system. Trees selected were birch, pine, blue spruce, sweetbay magnolia and dogwoods. The shrubs selected included azaleas, summersweet, shrub roses and rhododendron with colorful day lilies, saliva and sedum for perennials. A high percentage of the plants are fragrant adding another dimension to the garden experience.
The family now has a special place outside to gather around the fire and dining table after a day at school and work. A blank backyard was turned into a series of outdoor rooms for bringing the family and friends together.
